Taipei City Department of Transportation said today that due to network update-related problems, the YouBike system in Taipei, New Taipei, Hsinchu, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Changhua were out of commission, CNA reported. The system reportedly crashed at 5:00 this morning, causing problems with the bike-sharing network.
No announcement has been made regarding a timeframe for the YouBike system to be restored. However, it may take a day or two to fully restore the system for public use.
The system failure comes a day after the YouBike app was updated to allow riders to confirm whether bikes have been returned properly. The app will automatically notify riders within three minutes of a bike being returned. The update also allows riders to delete an EasyCard from the YouBike registration in the event of a lost or stolen card.
YouBike opened its 300th station in New Taipei in May, a little over a year after Taipei City ended the free 30-minute ride offer. A notice on the official YouBike website says that the free 30-minute ride offer was eliminated in Hsinchu on August 28.
