Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique Single Cask Strength was named the world’s best single malt whisky at the 2015 World Whiskies Awards (WWA).

The World Whiskies Awards website has this to say about the Kavalan whisky:

“Lots of stewed fruits on the nose. There’s also aged Bourbon notes. Water brings out custard creams. Surprisingly smooth on the palate. The alcohol is very present. It’s like Bourbon infused milk chocolate.”

Kavalan whisky was first sold in December 2008, and is sold at many Mr. Brown Coffee shops, which is owned by the same company. In 2011, Whisky Magazine named Kavalan distillery “Whisky Visitor Attraction of the Year.” The company began exporting whisky to San Francisco in April 2014.

Other Kavalan whiskies came away with medals in this year’s WWAs, including silver medals for Kavalan Podium Single Malt Whisky, Kavalan Single Malt Whisky, Kavalan King Car Conductor Single Malt Whisky, and Kavalan Podium, and bronze medals for Kavalan Solist Fino Sherry Single Cask Strength and Kavalan King Car Conductor.
