Taiwan’s top financial regulator said Wednesday that the government plans to allow individual Chinese nationals to invest in the local stock market through offshore securities units of Taiwanese brokerages. He expects individual Chinese investors to be able to buy shares by the end of June.
In 2010, Taiwan opened its market to Chinese qualified domestic institutional investors (QDIIs).
The TWSE posted its highest gains in two months following the news. The index was up 1.7%, as of 11:40 am today.
