The Taichung municipal government released its food safety app for iPhone users (no Android version is available), UDN reported. The app, 樂活台中食安篇, provides users with food inspection ratings as well as fire safety and building inspection information. It will also provide information for nearby restaurants so diners can choose where to eat based on the ratings.
The ratings for the restaurants are broken down into green, yellow, and red.
The city began aggregating inspection information in September and has covered most of the larger restaurants in Taichung. It plans to continuously add restaurant ratings to the app.
Taiwan has faced plenty of food scandals in the last year, including pesticide in tea, groundwater sold as mineral water, and tainted fried chicken seasoning. It’s no wonder most Taiwanese don’t trust food safety.
