Taichung District Prosecutors Office launched an investigation into public hospital medical equipment procurement-related corruption cases, UDN reported. The bribery for procurement involves Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Nantou Hospital, and at least one other hospital.
Prosecutors are questioning 11 suspects connected to the case, including hospital directors and doctors, as well as witnesses. At least 30 people are being questioned in the case, according to The Central News Agency. Prosecutors and the Ministry of Health and Welfare confiscated documents from three hospitals to review in the case.
More than NT$299 million in bribes was allegedly used to convince hospitals to procure medical equipment. The money allegedly was used by the manufacturers to coax doctors into requesting the equipment for their respective hospitals.
