Taichung hopes that more cultural activities will attract local and foreign tourists alike to the city this summer as it expands its Culture Bus tour service in response to their popularity in recent years. As there’s a lot to see and do around Taichung, including the Gaomei Wetlands and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, a tour through the city can help maximize sightseeing time.
The Taichung Culture Bus tour will open registration for tourists starting at 9:00 am on June 10 and run until noon on June 14, the Cultural Affairs Bureau announced on Wednesday. There will be eight bus routes through the city and 40 buses to serve visitors, with each bus carrying up to 35 passengers. The theme of this year’s Culture Bus tour is “Big Culture, Small Tour.”
Chang Ta-chuen (張大春), director of the Taichung Cultural Affairs Bureau, said that the bus service will operate between July 20 and September 29, excluding dates during the Mid-Autumn Festival from September 13 to 15. The tour costs NT$250 per person. The tours will highlight the culture and sights of Taichung, including the Taiwan Folk Museum, Fengyuan Lacquer Art Museum (豐原漆藝館), Military Village (眷村文物館), Carton King theme park, and Fantasy Story – Green Ray (范特喜綠光計劃等店家), as well as destinations to sample local cuisine.
The Taichung Culture Bus will also coincide with the city’s shopping festival (台中購物節活動) from July 10 to August 18. Visitors who spend NT$500 or more at participating retailers can enter to win prizes, including cars. There are currently about 4400 retailers registered for the shopping festival.
Registration for the Taichung Culture Bus is open online and via social messaging app LINE with the user account @spc3048n. There is also a phone number for those who need assistance. The official website is 2019.tccbus.tw. The website is only available in Mandarin. Registration does not guarantee a seat on the Taichung Culture Bus, but is an entry for the drawing to participate in the tours.
