NTU Student Arrested for Killing Cats

Chairman Meow is reportedly safe

Taipei police said they arrested a 23-year-old National Taiwan University student from Macau on suspicion of strangling cats on Qingtian Street (青田街), near Da’an Park, CNA reported. The police received reports on December 28 that cats in the area were killed, including one known to residents as Big Orange (大橘子). The student is being charged under the Animal Protection Act.

The man testified that he played with some cats along the street but had been bitten. He denied killing any of them, however.

A French teacher at NTU questioned the student when the teacher saw him wearing black gloves. The student claimed that he wore the gloves to protect his hands when playing with the cats.
