We’re almost halfway through December and it’s time to make plans for New Year’s Eve before all the best events are sold out. Here are some of the ways you and your friends can ring in 2018 in Taipei.
Despite rumors that last year would be the last for Taipei 101 fireworks, the show will go on. This year is scheduled to be the longest fireworks display at six minutes and will be integrated with an LED display between the 35th and 90th floors. This year’s theme is “Happy Together.”
The LED display will help cut the number of fireworks set off to reduce pollution. Organizers have posted a brief simulation video of this year’s display.
Most New Year’s revelers will watch the fireworks show from around Taipei 101 and City Hall MRT station. However, there will be other areas in Taipei from which to watch the show. Unfortunately, due to new construction, you can no longer see Taipei 101 from Songshan Cultural and Creative Park.
For those who prefer a club atmosphere to go along with the fireworks, there are options. ATT Showbox and Chess Taipei are hosting NYE countdown parties that include a view of the fireworks. The same goes for amba Taipei Songshan, which will host a BBQ party with music and drinks.
Every year Taipei offers a variety of concerts throughout the city.
The National Concert Hall will host the National Symphony Orchestra’s New Year’s Eve Concert 2 – Jazzy Waltz Before Dawn starting at 10:30 pm. Tickets for the show are still available. The Concert hall will also host a sold out family concert at 7:30 pm.
Jack’s Studio, Riverside Music Cafe, Revolver, and Bobwundaye all have shows on New Year’s Eve. Revolver hosts multiple bands and DJs for the evening.
Earlier in the day, there are performances around Taipei to enjoy before heading out to ring in the new year.
There’s an opportunity to laugh your way into 2018 with a New Year’s Eve Comedy Show at 卡米地 Comedy Club at 10 pm.
The National Theater hosts a dance performance titled “Dynamo_Roaming Away” at 2:30 pm.
Wellspring Theater will put on a performance of “Note Exchange Ⅱ – 1984” at 2:30.
