Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je stated that the city government will publish the blueprint for the development of the Taipei Akihabara project, which will incorporate Guanghua Digital Plaza and Taipei Information Park, when he attended an event to mark the traditional Work Resumption Day on the Chinese New Year calendar at Guanghua Digital Plaza on February 23.
The city will seek to integrate nearby commercial districts with the IT Park, showcasing Taipei as Taiwan’s hub for the development of information technology and animation-related products.
The mayor added that funds have been secured to push ahead with the project. He has instructed Department of Economic Development and Department of Finance to look into the details and promised significant progress to be made in the coming year.
Akihabara in Tokyo is known for its electronics market as well as stores for anime, manga, video games, and collectibles. No word on whether Taipei Akihabara will have its own maid cafe.
