A Malaysian first-year student at National Penghu University of Science and Technology (NPU, 澎湖科技大學) was discovered outside his dormitory this morning with three stab wounds to his chest, UDN reported.

The student was found with his clothes bloodied and a fruit knife nearby. Police are investigating the incident but have indicated that they believe it to be a suicide attempt.

The student was taken to Tri-Service General Hospital Penghu Branch (澎湖三總醫院) where he remains in intensive care.

The university has notified the student’s family and will provide necessary assistance in his recuperation.

This is not the first case in which police in Taiwan indicated a stabbing victim committed suicide. Last August, police in Taipei’s Neihu District said a man with multiple stab wounds to his neck and abdomen had committed suicide. The victim was also found with a fruit knife near his body.
