It may cost more to get home during rush hour or late at night. On January 29, The Taipei City Taxi Advisory and Review Committee approved a proposal to increase taxi fares.
The initial fare remains at NT$70 for the first 1.25 kilometers, but the fare has been raised to NT$5 for every additional 200 meters. The charge for traffic congestion idling time is now NT$5 per 1 minute and 20 seconds. A new surcharge of NT$50 per trip has been added for hiring wheelchair-accessible cabs.
The committee also approved a NT$20 holiday fare surcharge for Chinese New Year. The holiday fare rate period will last from two days before Chinese New Year’s Eve to the end of the last day of the New Year break. If the holiday period is less than 10 days, the duration of the holiday fare rate will still span 10 days, with the end date being the last day of the Chinese New Year break.
The plan will be forwarded to the City Executive Meeting for confirmation. The date of implementation will be announced after talks with the association, the taxi union, New Taipei City, and Keelung City.
