The Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office led a raid of an alleged illegal gambling operation in the city’s Hunei District at 11:00 last night, Apple Daily reported. DPP City Councilor Chen Mingze (陳明澤) was among the 84 men and women arrested in the raid. Among the people arrest were gamblers, staff, bookkeepers, and lookouts.
Police confiscated more than NT$750,000 from the gambling operation.
Councilor Chen claims that he was present because the house belongs to his mother and that he was renting the house out to tenants. Chen has served four terms as city councilor so far.
The DPP issued a press release saying that it will conduct its own investigation of the incident and may take disciplinary actions against Councilor Chen for damaging the party’s image, according to UDN.
