Nearly 350,000 residents in six southern districts of Tainan have been without water for 47 hours as the city replaces pipes, CNA reported. The water company is rushing to make necessary repairs Wednesday evening to restore service.
The replacement process was hindered when a water main broke along Guomin Rd. (國民路) at 2 pm Wednesday afternoon, causing thousands of residents to lose service. Water supply in the area was supposed to resume at 7 am, but the pipes burst hours after the supply returned. Maintenance was being performed on the pipes to replace older water pipes with new wider ones to improve service.
District Director Li Ting-lai (李丁來) said in a LINE group message that staff will identify residents affected by the water service interruption and determine fair compensation. Staff will also survey areas damaged by the incident.
Tainan Department of Information and International Relations Director Hsu Shu-fen (許淑芬) said service should be restored this evening.
