Who needs crowded clubs and rooftop views for New Year’s Eve fireworks? Now you can rent someone’s apartment with a view of Taipei 101. No more standing outside with the crowd as the temperatures dip.
There’s a catch, of course.
Prices start at NT$1000 per person and that doesn’t include food and drinks. Also, it’s not a private party as the residents will allow other guests willing to pay the sum for an indoor view. There’s no word on how many people are allowed at each party.
Netizens have begun noticing some posts in Facebook groups from entrepreneurial users advertising the private apartments with views of the fireworks. This year’s six-minute display is set to feature an LED light show to cut down on pollution from fireworks.
Some have questioned whether paying to attend a viewing at a stranger’s apartment is a bargain. Nearby clubs have New Year’s Eve deals ranging from NT$1000 to NT$2500 that include views of Taipei 101 at midnight.
