Time Warp Taiwan, a performance group that began in 2015 and is dedicated to shadowcasts of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” will bring the 1975 cult musical comedy classic film to LAB Space 實演場 in Beitou on April 29 for a sold-out show.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” stars Susan Sarandon and Tim Curry in a science-fiction parody musical, but Time Warp Taiwan adds a live performance and audience participation to its event. Time Warp Taiwan performers act out exactly what the characters do and say in the movie while the film plays on the screen in the background.
While the shadowcast performers strive for a PG-13 rating, they would like to remind the audience that there are characters in their underwear and simulated sex scenes. The performers will interact with the audience and encourage attendees to participate. The cast will give some instructions for times when the audience should shout and interact. They will also sell “virgin kits” (prop bags) for anyone who doesn’t bring their own props to the show.
While the audience is encouraged to bring their own props to the show, they ask that audience members refrain from bringing any food-related items that may be used during other performances of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
Time Warp Taiwan is an all-volunteer group that does not profit from the performance. At the 2016 Golden Horse Film Festival, the group guest performed a shadowcast of the film. They have held other events around Taipei since 2015.
Previous performances of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” were held at LUX Cinema in Ximen, but this will be the first time at LAB Space. The venue is smaller than LUX Cinema and can host up to 70 people.
The film will be in English with Chinese subtitles. The show is intended for viewers over the age of 18, but anyone over 16 may attend with a parent or guardian.
