The Chiayi City Government is developing plans for its old government building, which has sat idle for 11 years. The plan includes opening up space around the building for public parking.

The building, which was constructed in 1954 and used until the city government moved in 2005, was named an historic building in 2016. The redevelopment of the property depends on private investors who may convert it into a commercial space. Final plans are expected by the end of July.

The parking plan has come soon enough for some drivers in the area, however.

The local fire department received a call in Zhongpu Township on May 13, just after 5 pm, that an overturned car was on top of a house. The driver may have accidentally put the vehicle in reverse and driven off the cliffside before landing upside down on a concrete retaining wall behind the house. Had the car fallen further, it would have crashed through the roof.

The driver and passenger were slightly injured in the accident, UDN reported. Firefighters rescued the couple from the vehicle and transported them to a local hospital for treatment.
