Friday Photo: Along the Anping Canal in Tainan

Anping Canal Tainan

For those who find accommodation outside the tourist center of Tainan, there’s a pedestrian walkway along the Anping Canal (安平運河), which was created during the Qing Dynasty and later improved during the Japanese colonial period.

The canal turns a large portion of Anping District into an island, with the historic Old Street and tourist sites on the other side. It separates part of Anping District from West Central District.anping canal

It can be a more peaceful walk with fewer people taking the opportunity to walk around as most spend the day in tourist center and take taxis, motorbikes, or private cars on the way out. In the evening, the bridges that cross the canal are illuminated with color-changing lights.
